Quick-Read Recap
It is a relaxing Wednesday night. The rain is wrapping up after an afternoon of delightful showers. I am snuggled in bed under several layers and reflecting on whether or not I had a good day. I have been trying to be more intentional about ensuring that my life is not ONLY working. I want to be a woman who rests, but also sharpens her intellect at any opportunity possible.
Today being my last day off for the week, I was caught between “should I be productive to ensure the rest of my week goes smoothly?” or “rest”. I know I had some homework to do, so after an interview that surprisingly went better than I expected, I got my nails done and strolled over to the forbidden store for my wallet..Sephora. Truthfully, I was feeling really good emotionally. Let’s just say I spent so much money that I moved myself up to another tier in their rewards program.
They were essentials though. Promise!
Following my trip, I came home and took a fat nap before cleaning up the kitchen and some light vacuuming. It was only after making dinner that I got the idea for my next post. I want to highlight some reading material that was on my radar this week.
Canadian premier says he will cut off electricity exports to US ‘with a smile on my face’
I try my best not to converse about politics. It makes me feel uneasy. I have my own views on issues and I listen to the perspective of others. I follow movements that can impact the market and long term GDP effects, but I do not initiate or involve myself in conversations that have to do with either elected party. That being said, this article caught my attention because I did not know Canada to be a supplier of electricity to millions of Americans. I knew we were neighbors, I knew in previous years the USA has maintained a very healthy relationship with Canada. To see this backfire from Canada was unforeseeable for me. I am not surprised in the retaliation measures, but more so in the fact that they have a bit of an upper hand to play here. Playing this card is strategic and lacks something that our current president does not have, caution.
As bird flu spreads, feds might undercut states by firing scientists, removing data
I was in the nail salon where they play the news (I don't watch it at home) and it reminded me.. What the hell happened to bird flu? Is there even a shortage anymore or are farmers now using this as an advantage to charge higher prices. For the American diet, eggs have been an essential part of the nutritious breakfast category. It's been ingrained in us from those silly food pyramids in our youth – eggs are a good source of protein.
I think at this point, everyone is pretty aware of the mass firings that are happening at a federal level, and a few democratic states have stepped in to offer employment opportunities to previous federal employees. In this article, we learn additional things like how health agencies are desperate and responding to the loss of support (and data) to help combat this emerging issue of bird flu. Bird flu does not belong on the back burner just because news outlets don't cover the stories anymore.
This bit of reading is to teach myself new terminology. Social discounting is essentially utilizing social interpretations to support forecasting projections for profitability. So good! I found this resource on tiktok of all places, but it has proven to be phenomenal for me to take in some expert advice on social science.
Do female experts face an authority gap? Evidence from economics
I want to say that this was more of a comfort read on my commute. Usually when I don’t feel like overworking my brain analyzing issues in the market, I'll read something like this about power dynamics or maybe something about food. I think I also did some further research this week into GLP-1 placebos and the emerging users’ need to implement more protein into their diets.
Let me know what you guys think and have a great week!
